The Lion King 1½ is a 2004 direct-to-video spin-off released by Buena Vista Home Entertainment on February 10, 2004. This middle-of-the-road feature retells the story of the Disney's 1994 blockbuster, The Lion King, in Timon and Pumbaa's perspective.

Timon[edit]

Timon: That's it! Pumbaa! My fuse, it's genius. [makes a new movie title] There! Now this title's a knock out. [knocked down by the words "Coming Soon from Walt Disney Pictures"] OW! Not literally! [the text: "2004" and "Disney Blu-ray"]
Pumbaa: Um...I don't do so well in crowds. Maybe we better go around.
Timon: Don't you know the shortest distance between me and my dream home is a straight line? Follow me!
Animal #1: Oh.
Timon: Excuse me!
Animal #2: Ow.
Animal #3: Hello!
Animal #4: Goodness.
Timon: Make room, make room. Watch it, Twiggy. I'm walking here!
Pumbaa: This bowling from porcupines. [spits one of three quills] Wasn't for best idea, huh?
Timon: Yeah. It got to be right up there with bobbing for snapping turtles. Aah-hah-hah-hah-hoo!!!!
Pumbaa: That's going to leave a mark. [spits the second quill] Hey, look, Timon!
Timon: [about Simba] He's gone?! What do you mean: He's gone?!
Nala: It's just like the baboon said. The king has returned. [Timon and Pumbaa stare at her blankly; sighs] You guys want me to go over it again?
Timon: Yes please, but be a dear and skip to the part about Simba. Not that your childhood wasn't fascinating.
Nala: Okay. Look, Simba's the rightful king, but after he disappeared, Scar proclaimed himself the king and formed an alliance with the hyenas...
[As Nala talks, Timon and Pumbaa stop listening]
Pumbaa: [thinks] Poor Simba. The treachery. The villainy! The sheer indescribable horror!
Timon: [thinks] Blah blah blah. Why is she toying with us? This crazy chick is going to eat us.
Nala: ...So Simba has to go home to challenge his uncle and reclaim his place as king. [Timon and Pumbaa stare blankly at her] Ohh, you don't get it?! Simba needs us. Now! [runs off t find Simba]
Timon: [indignant] He needs us? Then he shouldn't have left us! If he wants to run off to be "His Highness", well, I say, don't let the branches hit you on the way out. Leave Hakuna Matata to someone who appreciates it. [strides off stubbornly]
Pumbaa: But, Timon...It's not really Hakuna Matata without Simba.
Timon: What's gotten into you? Not Hakuna Matata? That's crazy talk. Crazy talk, I tell you! Nothing's changed here. We had Hakuna Matata before Simba, and we have still got it now.
Pumbaa: We got to go help our friend, Timon.
Timon: Et tu, Pumbaa? You're just gonna walk away, give up on all this? What happened to "friends stick together to the end"?! Huh?! Huh?! Huh?!
Pumbaa: [incisively] I was about to ask you the same thing. [turns and stalks off. He looks back over his shoulder]
Timon: [stubbornly, flopping down on his bed] I got everything I ever wanted right here! [Pumbaa looks at Timon one last time with tears in his eye. He then turns and trots off. Timon lies in the bed, tapping his toe. He begins to soliloquize to convince himself he's doing the right thing] Now, this is more like it. ELBOW ROOM! ["Elbow room" echoes an absurd number of times as the camera pulls back repeatedly; he sits in despair] Uhhhh. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
[Last lines; at the end of the film]
Timon: Well, that's it. The big wrap-up. The happy ending. The grand finale.
Pumbaa: It's over already?
Timon: Well, Pumbaa. That's the thing about endings. They come at the end.
Pumbaa: Oh, can we watch it again?
Timon: Pumbaa, we just saw it. Maybe tomorrow.
Timon's Mother: [enters] Hey, what are you guys doing? [notices the film and gasps] You didn't tell me you were watching the movie. I want to watch, too!
Timon: Mom, we just finished. Show's over.
Ma: Well, you're just going to have to rewind it. [she rewinds the film]
Timon: Mom!
Ma: Uncle Max! We're going to watch the movie!
Timon: Oh, no!
Uncle Max: [enters with popcorn] Hey, I brought extra butter!?
Simba: [enters] Hey, you guys are watching the movie?
Rafiki: [enters with laughter] Any story worth telling is worth telling twice.
[Mickey Mouse walks in and sits down]
Timon: What the?!
[Snow White and the Seven Dwarves appear]
Snow White: Oh, excuse me.
Doc: 'Scuse me.
Sneezy: 'Scuse me.
Sleepy: 'Scuse me.
Happy: 'Scuse me.
Bashful: 'Scuse me.
Grumpy: Get out of the way!
Timon: Who is this crowd?! [Genie flies in and sits down in the middle, followed by Aladdin and Jasmine on the flying carpet; Belle, the Beast, Mrs. Potts and Chip, Lady and the Tramp, and Hyacinth Hippo are also seated in this row] Hey! Down in front!
[In another row, Goofy, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, and Donald Duck are sitting]
Stitch: Ho-ho! [bounces repeatedly from one character to another]
Goofy: Gawrsh!
Stitch: Aloha!
[Donald quacks angrily at him. In still another row, Quasimodo and Pocahontas sit at opposite ends of the row. Peter Pan flies in, followed by Tinker Bell, and crows like a rooster. The Lost Boys chatter, approaching him]
Timon: Watch it! [gets stuck in between two characters, Terk and Victor. Brer Bear, Mowgli, Baloo, the three gargoyles, and the three good fairies squeeze in together. Dumbo arrives and sends him soaring into the air, then he approaches Pumbaa] Okay, buddy. You win.
Pumbaa: Sure you don't mind?
Timon: Hakuna matata. [starts the film]
Pumbaa: Timon... [screen fades into black] I still don't do so well in crowds.
